Dartuken, River Gee County – Tienpo Dartuken Public School has officially closed its doors for the current academic year due to a severe shortage of teachers, leaving students in the area with no access to formal education.
According to Mr. K. Doe, the acting principal of the school, the institution has been unable to operate because there are no available teachers to conduct classes. Mr. Doe, who retired from active service in 2019, had been helping to keep the school functional in an acting capacity but says the situation has now become impossible.
“This academic year, 115 students registered for school, but sadly, all of them have dropped out because no teachers were assigned here,” Mr. Doe explained.
The situation has raised serious concerns among residents of Dartuken, who are urgently appealing to the Ministry of Education for intervention. Many parents worry that with the school closed, their children are now frequenting nearby gold mining sites in search of work, exposing them to child labor risks and depriving them of education.
Citizens are calling on local authorities and the Ministry of Education to take swift action and deploy qualified teachers to the community to reopen the school and save the future of their children.
