Episcopal Relief and Development Coordinator Calls for United Action Against SGBV in Rivercess

Cestos City, Rivercess County – The County Coordinator of the Episcopal Church of Liberia Relief and Development has called on stakeholders and community actors to work collectively to eradicate Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Rivercess County.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Verity News, Jeremiah Kuieh lamented that many cases of SGBV are compromised due to fear, stigma, and cultural norms that silence women and children.

“Sexual Gender-Based Violence cases are often compromised because women are afraid of being blamed,” Kuieh stated. “Most times, women and children are the victims of these violent incidents within their communities and towns.”

According to him, domestic violence remains widespread in Rivercess County, but many women choose not to report such abuses because traditional norms forbid them from taking complaints against their husbands to the authorities.

He further encouraged women facing such situations to speak out rather than suffer in silence.

“I want to openly ask women who are facing these situations to come out and speak, because keeping silent will only intensify their pain,” Kuieh urged.

His call comes amid growing national and international concerns over the increasing rate of SGBV cases across Liberia despite ongoing awareness and legislative efforts to curb the menace.
