LNP Bong Detachment Suspends Chief Inspector Over Unauthorized Suspect Release

GBARNGA, LIBERIA— The Liberia National Police (LNP) Bong County Detachment has taken decisive action by suspending and disrobing Chief Inspector Patrick Sendolo, the Deputy Commander of the Crime Services Division (CSD) in Bong County, due to allegations of improperly releasing a burglary suspect without the necessary authorization.

The incident in question involves a suspect linked to a recent burglary of the Joma Business Center— a popular Money Exchange and Foreign Transfer Bureau in Gbarnga. The recent burglary allegedly resulted in the theft of thousands of United States Dollars and some available items. It is reported that Officer Sendolo issued an order for the suspect’s release shortly after the individual was apprehended and handed over to the police by vigilant civilians.

In a statement made to reporters on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, LNP Bong Detachment Crime Services Division (CSD) Commander James Karto emphasized that the decision to disrobe Officer Sendolo was made following direct orders from LNP Headquarters in Monrovia. He condemned Sendolo’s reported actions as illegal and unethical, noting that they undermine the integrity of the police force.

“Officer Sendolo acted alone and without consultation,” Commander Karto stated, underscoring the seriousness of the offense. “He has been relieved of his post effective immediately, and his office has been locked as the investigation proceeds.”

As part of the ongoing inquiry, Officer Sendolo is now under serious investigation by the Police Professional Standards Division and is expected to be transferred to Monrovia for further questioning. Although not imprisoned, he remains under strict police surveillance at the LNP Bong County Detachment Headquarters in Gbarnga.

Additionally, Officer Sendolo is one of seven officers reportedly linked to the ongoing investigation during this process, which includes both male and female colleagues. They are accused of being on duty at the time of the release.

When approached for comment, Officer Patrick Sendolo expressed his willingness to address the media but stated he would prefer to do so after the conclusion of the investigation or upon receiving authorization from the investigative officers.

This incident raises significant concerns about adherence to protocol within the LNP and highlights the ongoing commitment to maintaining the integrity and trustworthiness of law enforcement in Liberia.
