During this year’s 178th Independence Day celebrations, history was made across the globe by millions of Liberians but most especially Liberians in Minnesota, USA. A special sense of nationalism and patriotism for the motherland, the Republic of Liberia, seemed to have reemerged and rejuvenated across the Liberian diaspora community as Liberians in Minnesota led the way. The Independence Day celebrations were historic and ecstatic:
1) The Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, declared an entire week dubbed and styled “The Liberian Independence Week” from July 22 to July 28, 2025. He did that through an official proclamation. So, it was like a week of working holiday in Minnesota.
2) An Independence Day parade intended to memorializing Liberia’s rich history, culture, heritage, and national pride was announced, organized, and held in grand style through the principal streets of Minnesota on July 26, 2025.
3) A LIVE musical show, featuring Nigerian mega superstar David Adedeji Adeleke alias Davido and other Liberian artists, was held in Minnesota on July 25, 2025. Davido was attired in a customized Liberian outfit labelled “Liberia 1847”.
