Senate Summons Education Minister, U.L. President, and MCSS Superintendent

“The Senate Committee on Education and Public Administration has summoned the following officials to appear before it on Thursday, September 4, 2025, to address critical issues affecting the education sector:

1. Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, Minister of Education, to present and discuss the Ministry’s comprehensive plans for the current fiscal year, with attention to:

* Policy priorities for basic and secondary education; Strategies for higher and technical education;

* Scholarship administration and student welfare, both at home and abroad; and

* Measures for improving learning outcomes, teacher training, and accountability in the system.

2. Dr. Layli Maparyan, President of the University of Liberia, to address the ongoing go-slow action by the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA):

* Present the University’s comprehensive academic and administrative plans for the current academic year;

* Provide detailed explanations regarding the grievances raised by ULFA: and

* Inform the Senate of the specific remedial measures your administration is undertaking to resolve the impasse at the earliest possible time, given the imminence of the new academic semester.

3. Hon. Dr. Augurine Stevens, Acting Superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS), to respond to urgent concerns raised by Liberian scholarship students currently enrolled at Apecjay Stya University and Graphic Era University in the Republic of India. These concerns particularly relate to:

* The continued delay in the settlement of their tuition and related fees since December 2024;

* The absence of medical insurance, stipends, and other necessary support; and

* The imminent threat of expulsion from their universities and hostel facilities due to unsettled obligations.

The media and public are invited. The public is also encouraged to submit questions they would like the Committee to ask during the proceedings.”
