Residents Block Major Road Over Bea Mountain’s Failure to Rehabilitate Access Route in Rivercess

NORBOR CLAN, River Cess County – Angry residents of Solo and Gbargbo villages have barricaded the only access road to Bea Mountain Mining Company’s exploration site, accusing the firm of breaking key promises made under its exploration agreement.

The protest, which began early Tuesday morning, September 16, 2025, halted all traffic along the more than 20-kilometer stretch between the company’s ITI camp and the two affected communities. Villagers say the road’s worsening condition has left them stranded during the rainy season, despite repeated appeals to the company for repairs.

We will not allow a single mining vehicle to pass until this road is fixed,” said one protest leader, who added that the company’s activities have also polluted local drinking water and destroyed crops without compensation or the provision of hand pumps.

Global Logistics Mining, a subsidiary of Bea Mountain Mining Company, signed a two-year exploration deal with six Bearwor Administrative District communities to search for gold. But residents of Solo and Gbargbo insist the company has failed to honor commitments to maintain the access road and protect the environment—demands they now say must be met before operations can continue.
