LNP Blocked from Investigating Fire at Weah’s Residence, Probe Ongoing into NSA Director’s Home Blaze

Monrovia, Liberia ~ The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed its response to two separate fire incidents in Monrovia and Paynesville between September 21 and 24, amid growing public concern and official silence from high-profile individuals linked to the cases.

The first incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 21, at the residence of Hon. Prince C. Johnson, Director of the National Security Agency (NSA), in New Kamah Town, Soul Clinic Community, Paynesville.

According to police sources, the three-bedroom structure sustained significant damage before the Liberia Fire Service arrived on the scene. Preliminary witness statements were collected, and a forensic team is continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze.

In a separate development, a fire was reported on Wednesday, September 24, at the Sinkor 9th Street residence of former President George M. Weah. However, police investigators were denied access to the premises. The LNP reports that upon arrival, their forensic team was informed by Mr. Jack N. Nyanapee, the Special Agent in Charge of the property, that the house was closed and that no authorization had been given to permit entry.

“Follow-up calls were made, but no further response was received as of this release,” the LNP noted in a statement issued Friday.

While the Liberia Fire Service is charged with determining the technical causes of fire outbreaks, the LNP’s Forensic Team plays a key role in supporting broader investigations, particularly when public figures are involved.

The LNP reiterated its commitment to impartial and professional investigations, stating that “no individual or institution is above the law.”

These cases will be pursued lawfully, with a focus on upholding the rule of law and protecting lives, property, and democratic stability,” the statement read.

The police expressed concern and solidarity with both former President Weah and NSA Director Johnson, assuring the public that updates will be provided as investigations progress.

Both incidents come at a time of heightened political sensitivity in Liberia, raising questions about public safety and the responsiveness of national security institutions.
