President Julius Maada Bio has announced a major national crackdown on the illicit drug trade, with a particular focus on the sale and distribution of the dangerous substance known as “Kush.” In a firm declaration aimed at curbing the growing drug crisis, the President warned that offenders will face severe consequences, including lengthy prison sentences and the seizure of assets acquired through illegal activities.
Speaking recently, President Bio stated that anyone found dealing in illicit drugs could face up to 15 years in prison, emphasizing that the government will show zero tolerance toward individuals or groups involved in the drug trade. He further revealed that properties and assets suspected to have been obtained through drug money will be confiscated by the state.
The President also disclosed that joint police and military operations will soon be launched to raid known drug hubs across the country. These coordinated efforts, he said, form part of a renewed national strategy to dismantle drug networks and restore public safety.
“This government will not allow criminals to profit from the destruction of our youth and communities,” President Bio declared. “We are determined to protect our citizens and ensure that no one benefits from the pain caused by illicit substances.”
The announcement comes amid growing public concern over the rapid spread of Kush, a highly addictive synthetic drug that has devastated many young lives across Sierra Leone. The government’s new measures signal a strong commitment to addressing what has become one of the nation’s most pressing social challenges.
