Kanneh Calls on Lofaians to ‘Own December 6’ Ahead of Unity Party Celebration

Monrovia — A prominent supporter of the governing Unity Party (UP), Lasana S. Kanneh, has issued a rallying message to citizens of Lofa County ahead of the party’s upcoming Homecoming and Fundraising Day scheduled for December 6, 2025, in Monrovia.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Kanneh called on “all sons and daughters of Lofa County” to treat the event as a moment of county pride and political significance, describing the Unity Party as “the child Lofa County gave birth to.”

Kanneh traced the origins of the party to 1984, crediting Lofa statesman Edward B. Kesselly for pioneering the movement that later became the Unity Party in 1985. He emphasized that the party has since maintained a historic bond with the county, most notably through its repeated selection of Lofa-born Joseph Nyumah Boakai as a key political figure.

Kanneh highlighted Boakai’s tenure as Vice President from 2006 to 2018, his presidential candidacies in 2017 and 2023, and his eventual election as President of Liberia. “Four times — twice as Vice President, twice as Presidential candidate — the Unity Party placed its full trust in Lofa County,” he wrote, adding, “Four times we delivered.”

The upcoming December 6 celebration will also mark the party’s acquisition of a permanent national headquarters in Monrovia for the first time in its 40-year history. Kanneh noted that President Boakai is expected to officiate the signing and dedication ceremonies, calling the moment “historic” for both the party and Lofa County.

He urged residents of the county to turn out in large numbers and to support the event financially. “The largest delegation will come from Lofa. The loudest cheers will come from Lofa. The biggest contribution will come from Lofa,” the statement declared.

Framing the event as both a symbolic and practical milestone, Kanneh called for unity, gratitude, and active participation. “December 6 is not just Unity Party’s day. December 6 is Lofa County’s day,” he said.

The Unity Party Homecoming and Fundraising Day is expected to draw supporters from across Liberia as the party commemorates its legacy and outlines its future plans.
