Liberia received US$800,000 from FIFA for the television rights from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Sources say the amount was remitted to the accounts of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) in 2026 but didn’t call the month or date.
But this amount neither formed part of this year’s budget to be approved by congress nor was an extraordinary congress held to endorse it.
It is the spending of this money, without a congressional approval, that LFA deputy secretary-general Mohammed Sheriff was speaking about at an executive committee meeting, which annoyed LFA President Mustapha Ishola Raji, when Sheriff sat in for LFA secretary-general Emmett Crayton.
The LFA spent around US$125,000 on Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR), a synthetic black rubber used on artificial turfs or pitches, which cushions the surface to reduce impact on players’ joints and minimize injuries.
An amount of US$100,000 was sent to India to procure footballing equipment, which are yet to arrive.
Two used buses were purchased at US$110,000, which are currently parked at the LFA headquarters in Swankanmore community.
They were procured from a vendor on 10th Street Sinkor in Monrovia although an unnamed executive committee member, who is a closed relative or associate of the vendor, told his colleagues the buses would have come brand new from India.
All these purchases were done without any laid down procurement process.
