Rivercess Health Officer Raises Alarm Over Deadly River Crossings Hindering Rural Healthcare

Cestos City, Rivercess County – The County Health Officer of Rivercess, Dr. Dyujay Karnga, has sounded an urgent alarm over severe geographical and logistical obstacles that continue to impede operations and supervision at two key health facilities in the county.

Dr. Karnga described the journey across the Yarnee River to reach the Klaygba Health Facility as extremely dangerous. Health workers, he said, rely on a leaking canoe that requires continuous water removal to keep it afloat, posing serious risks during routine travel. He stressed the need for a larger, motorized canoe costing about US$5,000, adding that supervisors have avoided the route due to past traumatic experiences, despite repeated appeals to authorities.

He further highlighted that accessing the Kanyah Health Facility has become increasingly difficult. Travel to the area requires crossing the Jo River, but recent flooding destroyed the only canoe available, leaving health teams unable to conduct essential supervision and outreach activities.

Dr. Karnga emphasized that these transportation challenges are crippling healthcare delivery in rural communities. He called on government officials and development partners to intervene urgently, warning that without immediate support, residents in remote areas will continue to be deprived of the vital medical services they deserve.
