Humanitarian Medical Outreach Reaches Underserved Communities in River Gee

By: Ben T.C. Brooks

River Gee County | Jan 4, 2026 | Hope has reached some parts of River Gee County’s most remote communities as residents of Tienpo Cheboken and surrounding communities benefited from a free medical outreach.

The initiative was spearheaded by Mr. Morris M. Kromah, a U.S.-based Liberian healthcare executive and Chief Executive Officer of Khadijah Medical Center in Gbeapo Kanweaken, River Gee County.

The humanitarian intervention targeted rural populations with limited access to basic healthcare services, largely due to poor road networks, widespread poverty, and geographic isolation.

According to the Khadijah Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Kromah, medications used during the outreach were valued at approximately US$5,000, and the initiative is expected to expand to other parts of electoral district one, with Tienpo Cheboken serving as the pilot community.

He told our reporter that the effort symbolized a strong commitment to healthcare equity for the county most vulnerable populations, many of whom had not seen a trained medical professional in years.

However, more than 700 people received free medications including medical consultations and diagnoses.

The outreach team treated a wide range of illnesses, including, Hypertension, Diabetes, Ulcers, Typhoid, a general body pain and other infections, while patients requiring specialized or advanced care were referred to Fish-Town referral hospital for further treatment.

“This outreach is more than just healthcare, it’s about restoring dignity and hope,” said Morris M. Kromah. “For more than eight years, we have been providing free medical services in River Gee.

This time, we deliberately focused on villages that are often forgotten, communities without roads, clinics, or reliable access to healthcare.” Kromah added.

Beyond River Gee County, Mr. Kromah has an extensive humanitarian footprint. As a medical mission leader for the Federation of Liberian Mandingo Associations in the USA – FELMAUSA, he has led similar outreach programs across 11 counties in Liberia, impacting thousands of lives nationwide.

Meanwhile, voices from communities expressed deep appreciation for the initiative. Eighty-seven-year-old Ma Betty Wesseh and Elder Ezekiel Dweh, community leaders, praised the Khadijah Medical Center team for their compassion and commitment.

They urged the outreach team to continue such life-saving initiatives and called on other sons and daughters of the district, including humanitarian organizations, to support similar efforts aimed at improving rural healthcare.

The outreach stands as a powerful example of community-based and decentralized healthcare delivery in rural Africa.

As rural residents of River Gee return to their farms and homes, they do so healthier, encouraged, and reassured that they have not been forgotten.
