Kolahun District, Lofa County – A tragic accident claimed the life of Pastor Nodorbor Johnson on February 28, 2026, when a controlled farm burn in Gbandi Chiefdom spiraled out of control.
Pastor Johnson, of the Ndambu Evangelical Church, was assisting local farmers with seasonal land clearing when flames reportedly spread too quickly, trapping him despite his efforts to escape.
A 15-member jury convened to investigate the incident found no evidence of foul play. “The body was not discovered directly on the farm plot. He moved toward an open area, but the fire encircled him,” a jury member said.
The pastor’s death has shocked his congregation and the wider Gbandi Chiefdom community, where he was widely respected for his spiritual guidance and service.
Family members and church congregants continue to mourn, as tributes pour in from across the county. Pastor Johnson leaves behind six children, and his family is appealing for public support during this difficult time.
The Liberia National Police has confirmed the jury’s findings and urged farmers to exercise caution during seasonal burns to prevent similar tragedies.
