The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has swiftly acted to temporarily shut down a local business in Fiamah, Royal Dad Enterprise, that has been accused of selling expired rice.
The entity was accused by customer Jamesetta Flomo Gbartea who claimed she bought a bag of American parboiled rice for US$85 and later observed that the rice was allegedly expired.
“I bought the rice on Thursday around 6:30pm. When I carried the rice home, it was late to check it. I decided to cook the rice. The smell alone was too much. The rice is rotten. I called them the next day and told them that the rice spoiled. He told me that he was going to meet his manager and later get back. The rice has no expiration date. I bought the rice US$85. The government has to get involved. I am taking my complaint to the Commerce Ministry. This is what bringing a lot of sicknesses,” Jamesetta Gbartea told newsmen.
Even though the owner of the rice store has denied any wrongdoing, Ministry of Commerce said the decision to dispatch a team of inspectors was intended to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure consumer protection.
