The Liberia National Police has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the South African wife of Liberian economist and political analyst Samuel Jackson.
Heavily armed police officers were deployed to Jackson’s residence in Monrovia just hours after he announced the woman’s death on social media.
Jackson, 73, later appeared in a Facebook Live video in which he accused Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman of harassment and intimidation. “Let them arrest me. I want to go to jail,” he said during the broadcast.
In another recording shared online before his wife’s death, Jackson appeared distressed as he spoke about her condition. “Aye my country. Two places. Ambulance is down in the garage. Only God can help this woman. I’m just calm. God. We need a miracle. Can’t fly her out until she’s stable,” he said.
Police have not yet released full details about the cause of death but say the investigation is ongoing.
