Lone Star leave for Morocco as LFA and MYS are bobo about details

By Danesius Marteh

For the umpteenth time under the leadership of Mustapha Ishola Raji, Liberia’s national team (at any level) left the country for international friendlies with their departure shrouded in secrecy.

Liberia play Benin on 27 March and Libya on 31 March in Morocco.

But it took the Liberia Football Association (LFA) on 21 March at 21:27GMT (9:27PM local time) to release the squad list.

That was hours before the delegation’s departure and following a post on Facebook by former Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) President Kolubah Zayzay of ELBC at 17:21GMT (5:21PM local time) on 21 March, which was circulated in several chat rooms.

Kolubah, a supporter of Raji’s administration, is apparently fed-up that this is becoming the modus operandi (a particular way or method of doing things) at the LFA.

Miracles don’t happen in the churches these days but at the LFA.

And so was the case when former Liberia international Christopher Wreh was named as caretaker coach.

Thomas Kojo, who has been serving as caretaker coach following the unceremonious departure of Mario Marinica of Romania in October 2024, was shown a red-card.

And Wreh performed his first miracle by inviting Amos Wesseh, a 25-year-old goalkeeper, who plays for Rohda Raalte in the third division in the Netherlands, and 24-year-old defender Tito Yormie of top-tier side Neman of Belarus.

But a bigger miracle may occur as only four local players traveled and there are reports that foreign-based players are requesting appearance fees from previous games before honoring this latest invitation.

Administrative manager Sebastian ‘Mowa’ Collins was contacted for details but referred our reporter to LFA media manager Anthony Kokoi.

Deputy Youth & Sports Ministers Henry Yonton and Andy Quamie were

contacted but only Quamie responded by referring our reporter back to the LFA.

A men’s under-20 team is also preparing to leave the country for the United States of America (USA) with no details about the trip.

Everything is happening very fast, quietly and in the back.

We woke-up on 28 December 2025 to the news that our men’s under-20 had departed for Bo, Sierra Leone for a two-legged friendly with first division side Kings Park Rangers FC from 29-30 December 2025.

The LFA may have been chasing the US$50,000 offers by FIFA for playing three youth international friendlies.

But which national team, at any level, travels and plays under such a condition?

It was the same pattern when the senior national team, consisting of local players and officials, returned home on 16 November 2025 following a friendly encounter with Guinea in Morocco on 15 November 2025.

All we read was the squad announcement by Kojo on 11 November 2025.

Defender Sampson Dweh, midfielders Murphy Oscar Dorley and Divine Teah and striker Nicholas Andrews missed the 2-0 defeat at the Stade El Bachir Mihammedia due to injuries.

When will the secrecy ends at the LFA?

And what is the LFA even hiding?

Your guess is as good as mine.
