MONROVIA — The Liberia Political Centrism Movement (LPCM) has suffered a notable setback following the resignation of one of its senior executives, Gabriel Nyanti, who announced his decision to withdraw from the movement citing a shift in his political ideology.
In a written statement, Nyanti disclosed that his political beliefs have evolved and no longer align with the direction of the Centrism movement. His departure, while calm in tone, raises fresh questions about internal cohesion within the emerging political institution.
“After prudent consideration, I have determined that my political orientation no longer aligns with the path of the Liberia Political CENTRISM movement,” Nyanti stated.
He emphasized that his decision should not be interpreted as a rejection of the movement’s principles or its members, but rather as a matter of personal ideological growth.
“This is not a dismissal of CENTRISM’s value or the integrity of its constituents; rather, it is a fair disclosure that my own ideological bearing has evolved,” he noted.
Nyanti stressed the importance of ideological clarity in political engagement, adding that remaining within the movement despite his shifting views would undermine that principle.
“In any struggle, ideological coherence matters. To remain would be to blur that sanctity,” he asserted.
The former executive clarified that his resignation is not an act of protest but a personal decision rooted in his evolving political convictions.
“Therefore, I withdraw my membership, not in protest, but in alignment with my own political sentiments. I do so with respect for our shared history and without any ill will towards what lies ahead,” he concluded.
While the LPCM has yet to issue an official response, Nyanti’s exit is expected to spark discussion within political circles about the party’s ideological direction and its ability to maintain unity among its leadership.
His resignation marks a significant moment for the movement as it continues to position itself within Liberia’s evolving political landscape.
