Monrovia — The Director General of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation, Dewitt von Ballmoos, is being credited with transforming the institution into a multimillion-dollar entity over more than two decades of leadership.
According to Focus on Liberia, von Ballmoos spearheaded sweeping reforms that strengthened Liberia’s social security system while expanding infrastructure and workforce capacity across the country.
Under his administration, NASSCORP’s investment portfolio grew significantly—from $4.7 million in 2006 to $50 million by 2025. The corporation also disbursed over $106 million to 15,602 beneficiaries between 2006 and 2022, with an additional $69.4 million paid between 2020 and 2025.
Major projects include the construction of NASSCORP House, now occupied by the Liberia Revenue Authority, and the establishment of regional offices in Kakata, Buchanan, Tubmanburg, and Voinjama.
The corporation also launched Jahmale Medical Solutions, a modern diagnostic center in Paynesville, and provided emergency support during national crises, including the West Point fire, Ebola, and COVID-19 outbreaks.
NASSCORP has further modernized its operations through biometric identification systems and direct bank transfers for beneficiaries.
Von Ballmoos’ impact has earned international recognition, including his election to a leadership role within the International Social Security Association.
Established in 1975, NASSCORP administers Liberia’s Employment Injury Scheme and National Pension Scheme for public and private sector workers.
