Morlu says Pres. Boakai’s peace award is an ‘insult to struggling families and grieving citizens’

By Archie Ayouba Boan

The National Chairman of the pressure group, Solidarity Trust for a New Day (STAND), Mulbah Morlu, has launched a salvo of critiques of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s latest African Annual Peace Award that he received in the United States of America.

“…A so-called peace award cannot heal the confidence crisis. Yesterday, President Boakai returned to the country with a peace award, and not with solution. An award handed to a sitting president presiding over economic hardship, judicial crisis, and grand public anger. This is a foreign award that lands from a luxury flight. It’s an insult to the people. It is an insult to struggling families; an insult to grieving citizens. Let’s be very clear, there is no peace in empty kitchens. There is no peace in broken hospitals. There’s no peace when justice is denied, delayed, and manipulated. Yet, the president returns angry that the streets are not dancing and the people are not celebrating. How can you dance when your country is in economic distress? There’s no honor in a peace award received in a foreign country when your people are suffering back home. This trip was about fake image-building. It was about getting praises that he cannot get back home. He traveled in search of personal glory when families remain stranded back home. This is not a new beginning. This is the return of darkness. Joseph Boakai’s so-called award is undeserved and a mockery to the people.” Mr. Mulbah K. Morlu, Chairman, STAND
