Margibi County — Residents of Larworta and Kolleh Darnpunu-Darpono in Margibi County have received statutory land deeds from the Margibi County Administration and the Liberia Land Authority, marking a major step in the country’s land reform efforts.
The County Administration headed Superintendent OJay Morris, in partnership with the Liberia Land Authority, on Friday, May 1, 2026, handed over legal land instruments to residents of Larworta and Kolleh Darnpunu-Darpono. The deeds were delivered through the Community Land Development and Management Committees and subsequently entrusted to local chiefs and elders.
Acting Land Administrator William Wreh described the documents as more than symbolic, calling them vital legal protections for both present and future generations. He urged residents to safeguard and use the land for the collective benefit of their communities.
Superintendent Morris said the initiative reflects President Joseph Boakai’s commitment to securing land rights for rural populations. He emphasized that the deeds are intended to protect customary land ownership, not to create division or encourage land sales.
“The land belongs to everyone, not just individuals or families,” Morris stated, urging residents to remain united and manage the resource responsibly.
The ceremony brought together chiefs, elders, and residents from Electoral Districts #4 and #5.
