“Only Boakai Accepted My Help”— Weah Says Public Rejection Fueled His Strength

By Emmanuel M. Kangar, Jr.

Former Liberian President George Manneh Weah took a swipe at President Joseph Boakai on Sunday while defending his record and reflecting on public criticism during a live appearance on King’s FM.

Weah suggested that public hostility toward him has at times overshadowed his intentions to help others.
“People hate me so much that when they are sick, and I offer to take them to the hospital, they refuse,” Weah said. “The only sensible person who accepted when I made that offer was Joseph Boakai.”

Despite the remark, which drew attention for its tone, Weah also struck a conciliatory note about his own conduct in office.

“I never brought war to Liberia. I have not done anything bad to this country. I remain calm with people because God has always been kind to me,” he stated.

Weah used the platform to recount the origins of his media ventures, noting that King’s FM was founded in 2004 out of his passion for music and his early experience as a disc jockey.

“I was one of the best DJs in Liberia,” he said. “Because of my role in Monaco, I established Royal Communications, which led to the creation of King’s FM, City FM, and Clar TV.”

On governance and development, the former president defended his administration’s record, arguing that his government initiated and financed key projects across the country.

“We did a whole lot for Liberia, but the people wanted change, and we respected that,” Weah said. “However, the country remains the same. Many of the good things happening now were started under my watch.”

The remarks come amid ongoing political discourse in Liberia, as leaders and stakeholders continue to debate the country’s development trajectory following the 2023 transition of power.
