U.S. to Push U.N. Resolution on Strait of Hormuz Tensions

By Emmanuel M. Kangar, Jr.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States will introduce a resolution at the United Nations Security Council aimed at addressing rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, Rubio accused Iran of threatening global economic stability through actions such as attempting to close the vital shipping route, laying sea mines, and proposing tolls on passing vessels.

According to Rubio, the draft resolution—developed at the direction of Donald Trump—calls on Iran to halt attacks on ships, cease mining activities, and abandon any plans to impose transit fees. It also urges Iran to disclose the location of any sea mines and cooperate with international efforts to remove them.

The proposal has been drafted in coordination with several Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain.

Rubio added that the resolution also supports the creation of a humanitarian corridor in the region. A vote at the Security Council is expected in the coming days, with the United States seeking broad international backing.
