NEC Confirms Missing Elections Magistrate Case

By Ben T. C. Brooks

The National Elections Commission (NEC) has confirmed reports concerning the disappearance of Sinoe County Senior Elections Magistrate Solomon Jaryenneh and has formally requested the Liberia National Police (LNP) to launch an investigation into the matter.

In a statement issued by NEC Communications Director Titus W. Tokpah Sr., the Commission disclosed that it received a written communication on April 23, 2026, from Mrs. Hawa Jaryenneh expressing concern over the whereabouts of her husband.

According to the NEC, Mrs. Jaryenneh stated that the elections magistrate had attended two NEC-organized workshops in Harper, Maryland County, and Ganta, Nimba County, before informing family members of plans to travel within the Maryland County corridor near the Liberia–Côte d’Ivoire border to seek traditional medical treatment for health concerns.

The family reported that all efforts to contact Mr. Jaryenneh since April 2, 2026, have been unsuccessful, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

The NEC said it has officially notified LNP Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman and requested “appropriate investigation and support” into the matter.

The Commission added that it has documented the family’s concerns and remains in communication with relatives to provide any additional institutional assistance required.

“The NEC emphasizes that this matter is being treated with utmost seriousness and sensitivity,” the statement noted.

The Commission also urged members of the public to provide any credible information that could assist authorities in locating Mr. Jaryenneh.
