FLY Says Era of Monrovia-Centered Youth Leadership Must End as It Takes Elections Nationwide

The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) is moving to change how young people experience their national youth institution.

The organization has announced plans to conduct County Youth Elections on September 26, 2026, as part of an effort to strengthen local leadership and bring decision-making closer to young people.

For years, critics have argued that many national youth institutions are concentrated in Monrovia, leaving young people in rural communities disconnected from leadership structures.

FLY says the solution is decentralization.

Under the new reform agenda, every county will have stronger elected youth leadership structures, local representation, and financial mechanisms designed to support county-level activities.

The organization says membership dues collected from county structures will support county operations rather than being controlled only from the national office.

Youth leaders and development partners are being invited to support the process.

The message from FLY is clear: the future of youth leadership in Liberia cannot only be built in Monrovia. It must be built in every county.
