Margibi County — Verity News Editor Journalist Emmanuel Kangar has urged students and alumni of the UT YMCA Community High School to remain loyal and committed to the institution as the school celebrated its 26th Gala Anniversary in Unification City, Margibi County.

Speaking as the guest orator during the anniversary celebration on Friday, May 8, 2026, Kangar, himself a former student of the institution, encouraged students to “prioritize your YMCA” by upholding the values of discipline, integrity, and excellence that the school has promoted since its establishment in 2000.

He spoke on the theme: “Loyalty, Discipline, and Excellence: Our Pride Since 2000.”

Addressing students, faculty members, alumni, and guests, Kangar described the occasion as more than just another school celebration, calling it “a celebration of history, sacrifice, growth, loyalty, excellence, and the countless dreams that have been nurtured within these walls.”

“For twenty-six years, this institution has stood as a center of learning, discipline, and moral guidance,” he said. “Many of us seated here today are living testimonies of the values and education we received from this great institution.”

The Liberian journalist stressed the importance of loyalty to one’s alma mater, noting that students should proudly represent the school through discipline, hard work, and good conduct.

“A loyal student doesn’t just wear the uniform proudly; a loyal student represents the school through discipline, integrity, hard work, and good conduct,” Kangar stated.

He also challenged alumni to continue supporting the growth and development of the institution after graduation.

“As alumni, we must remember that our relationship with our alma mater does not end after graduation. Rather, graduation marks the beginning of our responsibility to give back, encourage others, and contribute toward the growth of the institution that once invested in us,” he added.

During the program, Kangar also crowned the 2026/2027 Miss UT YMCA Community High School, Hellen Mulbah, and urged members of the school’s royal family to see their positions as responsibilities rather than symbols of beauty alone.

“Your positions are not only symbols of beauty and honor, but also symbols of leadership, humility, responsibility, and positive influence,” he told the inductees.

He further encouraged students to pursue purpose and excellence instead of popularity and recognition.

The celebration brought together officials of the YMCA Unification Town Branch, headed by Branch Coordinator Mark Jusu Sannoh, along with the school administration led by Principal E. Melvin Jallah, alumni members, parents, and students.

Kangar concluded by calling on the school community to renew its commitment to education, discipline, and unity.
Quoting the school’s anthem, he said: “Oh finest army in the land, YMCA my YMCA; therefore, let’s take this YMCA to be ours.”
