James K. Nimene Sr., a candidate for Executive Committee Member in the upcoming Liberia Football Association (LFA) elections, has withdrawn from the electoral process in protest against the disqualification of presidential candidate Cassell Anthony Kuoh Sr.
In a statement issued Thursday, May 14, in Monrovia, Nimene said his decision was made “in solidarity” with Kuoh, whom he described as having been “unjustly and improperly barred” from contesting by the LFA Independent Electoral Committee.
Nimene raised concerns about the credibility, fairness, and transparency of the electoral process, arguing that Kuoh’s disqualification undermines democratic principles and FIFA standards of inclusion and fair play.
He accused election organizers of promoting “alienation and exclusionary practices” and alleged violations of constitutional rights, including the right to fair hearing, equal participation, and due process.
According to Nimene, the electoral process has been marked by “irregularities and inconsistencies” that threaten stakeholder confidence and the integrity of football governance in Liberia.
“As a football administrator and stakeholder who believes in accountability, transparency, justice, and institutional integrity, I cannot in good conscience continue participating in a process that appears fundamentally flawed,” he stated.
Despite his withdrawal, Nimene emphasized that he remains committed to advocating for reforms and the development of Liberian football through a transparent and inclusive governance system.
He also thanked supporters, colleagues, and football stakeholders for standing by him during the process.
