BCU Lecturer Seeks Support To Expand Palm Nursery Project In Bong County

By Matalay S. Kollie

GBARNGA, BONG COUNTY – A part-time lecture at the Bong County University, in the College of Agriculture Technology, Benjamin L. Paye, is calling on goodwill individuals, philanthropic organizations, development partners, and government officials to support the expansion of his ongoing palm nursery project aimed at empowering local farmers and improving agricultural production in Bong County and Liberia.

Mr. Paye is currently operating a ” PRE-GERMINATED TENERA F-1 SEEDS” palm nursery in Bellemu Town, Panta District. The project, he said, presently contains approximately 2,500 palm seedlings, with plans underway to increase production to more than 10,000 seedlings in the coming months.

According to him, each palm seedling costs approximately USD 0.40, and additional financial and material support is urgently needed to help scale up the initiative and establish a sustainable nursery program for local farmers across the district.

The nursery project, according to him, is already creating opportunities for community participation and agricultural engagement. Mr. Paye disclosed that about 25 local farmers currently work at the nursery every Friday as part of efforts to strengthen local farming capacity and promote self-reliance through agriculture.

He emphasized that the project seeks not only to increase palm production but also to serve as a training and support center for farmers interested in nursery development and modern agricultural practices.

Among basic materials currently needed to support the nursery are: Watering cans, Fertilizer, additional nursery supplies and operational support

The initiative, according to him, also reflects growing local efforts to boost agriculture, create employment opportunities, and encourage community-based farming development in rural Liberia.

Individuals and organizations willing to support the initiative or partner with the project can contact Mr. Benjamin L. Paye through the following numbers: 0888193758/0772089801
