MONROVIA — Commerce Minister Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh says her administration is actively enforcing price control measures across Liberia and that she hopes her legacy will be tied to stabilizing prices on the market.
Speaking on the Punch Breakfast Show, Minister Dagoseh declared that the government’s price control policy remains in force and is being implemented through direct market inspections and enforcement activities.
“Liberia has price control and it is in effect. We are implementing price control and that is why you see me on the field enforcing the mandate,” Dagoseh said. “We are controlling prices on the market. I want to be remembered as a Commerce Minister that stabilizes prices on the market.”
The Commerce Minister’s remarks come amid growing public concern over the rising cost of goods and services across the country. In recent months, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has intensified market surveillance efforts aimed at preventing arbitrary price hikes and ensuring compliance with government regulations.
Dagoseh has frequently been seen visiting local markets and businesses to monitor prices and engage traders on fair pricing practices. The ministry says the initiative is intended to protect consumers from exploitation and maintain economic stability.
While some consumers have welcomed the government’s intervention, economists and business operators continue to debate the long-term effectiveness of price controls in addressing inflation and supply chain challenges.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has not yet announced any new nationwide pricing measures but says enforcement of existing regulations will continue.
