From “Thief-Five” to Political Ally: Gray Accuses UP of Hypocrisy

Former Montserrado County District #8 Representative and staunch member of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Moses Acarous Gray, has sharply criticized the ruling Unity Party (UP) for what he described as hypocrisy in its stance against corruption, accusing the government of embracing former CDC stalwart and current Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah despite previous allegations against him.

Gray, speaking publicly on the matter, alleged that members of the Unity Party had once branded Fallah as “Thief-Five” and promised to prosecute him for corruption if elected to power. However, he said the current administration has instead welcomed and celebrated the Deputy Speaker.

“The entire Unity Party once called him ‘Thief-Five’ and vowed to prosecute him for corruption, but today they celebrate him as President Boakai wines and dines with him, spending some of the alleged corrupt money,” Gray said.

He further questioned the sincerity of the government’s anti-corruption campaign, claiming that the administration is practicing selective justice.

“This begs the question on the UP’s sincerity in fighting corruption and selective justice,” he added.

Thomas Fallah, a former senior figure within the CDC, currently serves as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. His political alignment and relationship with the ruling establishment have continued to draw reactions from opposition figures and political observers.

The Unity Party-led government has repeatedly pledged to tackle corruption and strengthen accountability across public institutions since assuming office under President Joseph Boakai.

However, critics argue that recent political alliances and engagements with former opposition figures accused of wrongdoing undermine those commitments.
