Dr. Lester Z. Tenny, former Vice President for Technical Services at the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) under the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)-led government, has alleged that former President George Weah is the “mastermind” behind the legal troubles facing former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah.
In a statement on Facebook, Tenny dismissed claims that the ruling Unity Party government is politically targeting Tweah, arguing instead that Tweah does not pose a major political threat to the administration of President Joseph Boakai.
“The real question many of you aren’t asking is since Tweah doesn’t pose any significant threat to the UP, then why would anybody think that the UP is targeting him?” Tenny wrote.
According to him, a “free Samuel Tweah” represents a greater political challenge to Weah than to the ruling party. Tenny further accused the former president of sidelining influential figures within the CDC whenever they became politically powerful or popular.
He referenced former House Speaker Fonati Koffa, Thomas Fallah, Saah Joseph, and Representative Yekeh Kolubah as examples of individuals he claimed fell out of favor with Weah.
Tenny alleged that Tweah’s ongoing legal challenges may ultimately be linked to internal political rivalry within the CDC.
“I often tell people, nobody understands Weah better than me. The man is a witty contriver,” he stated.
Neither Weah nor representatives of the CDC had responded to the allegations as of press time.
