The Government of Liberia has officially unveiled plans for the construction of the country’s first-ever dedicated maternity hospital, a major milestone in the nation’s healthcare development.

The facility is set to be built in the Duport Road area of Paynesville City, following a groundbreaking ceremony led by the First Lady of Liberia, Kartumu Yarta Boakai.

The project was presented by the Minister of Health, Louise M. Kpoto, who unveiled the architectural design of the proposed maternity hospital and confirmed that funding for the construction has already been secured.

Health officials described the initiative as a significant step toward improving maternal and neonatal healthcare services across the country. The new facility is expected to provide specialized care for pregnant women and newborns, helping to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.

Speaking during the announcement, Minister Kpoto expressed optimism about the project, noting the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare. “So, so good news. Get used to it. The proposed Duport Road Maternity Hospital,” she said.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of construction for what is expected to become a landmark health facility in Liberia, addressing long-standing gaps in maternal healthcare services.
