Bong County Police Commander, ACP William Johnson, has disclosed that officers recovered several parcels of minerals believed to be gold, along with mobile phones and other personal belongings, from the bag of Josiah S.
Doenunneh, one of the passengers who reportedly died in the tragic road accident that occurred this morning near the Salala checkpoint on the Monrovia–Gbarnga Highway.
ACP Johnson says the street value of the suspected gold has not yet been determined.
The Liberia National Police (LNP) Bong County Detachment is now appealing to the public to assist in locating the family members of the late Josiah S. Doenunneh so that the recovered items can be properly identified and handed over through the appropriate legal process.
The accident involved a white Toyota Land Cruiser (plate number A6A0756) belonging to the Catholic Diocese of Cape Palmas. Reports indicate that the vehicle was traveling toward Monrovia when the driver reportedly lost control, causing it to veer off the road and crash into nearby bushes.
Eyewitnesses said six occupants sustained injuries and were rushed to a medical facility for treatment, while two men are believed to have died at the scene.
