Liberian Scholar and Chemist, Mr. Mohammed Konneh, has represented Liberia at the 15th Analytical Chemistry Course on Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) held at Protectnik Laboratories in Pretoria, South Africa.
Organized by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, the prestigious course brought together only 20 analytical chemists from across Africa to strengthen expertise in advanced analytical techniques and laboratory science.
This marks a historic milestone for Liberia, as it is the country’s first participation in this internationally recognized training program. Chemist Konneh is currently the only Liberian to have attended the course, reflecting both his professional competence and Liberia’s growing contribution to scientific research and technical capacity building.
As Liberia continues to strengthen its scientific and industrial sectors, professionals with advanced technical expertise such as Konneh will play an increasingly important role in building national laboratory capacity, supporting regulatory institutions, promoting scientific innovation, and contributing to sustainable economic development.
Konneh is a Liberian ISO-trained chemist who holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Analytical Chemistry. He previously served as a Research Fellow at the Technology Research and Application Center Laboratory of Erciyes University in Türkiye, where he contributed to advanced scientific research and laboratory innovation.
Konneh has published research papers in internationally recognized Q1 Scopus-indexed journals, the highest-ranking category of scientific publications. In 2026 alone, he has published three scientific articles in Q1 journals, demonstrating his commitment to scientific excellence and knowledge generation.
