GSA Cracks Down on Mismanagement

The General Services Agency (GSA) has launched a nationwide county tour with a strong warning to government ministries, agencies, and commissions over widespread non-compliance with regulations governing the management of public assets.‎

‎Addressing a joint meeting with representatives of government institutions in Zwedru, GSA Director General Galakpai W. Kortimai said the initiative is aimed at reinforcing the agency’s statutory mandate and ensuring that government properties across Liberia are properly managed, documented, and protected from misuse.

‎Mr. Kortimai disclosed that the GSA has observed that many public institutions have failed to fully comply with regulations relating to government assets, creating accountability gaps and weakening oversight of public resources.

‎He reminded officials that the GSA is legally responsible for managing government properties, supervising the government’s vehicle fleet, maintaining public assets, and providing office accommodation and logistical support to state institutions. He stressed that these responsibilities must be respected if government resources are to be safeguarded.

‎The Director General said the nationwide tour is intended to strengthen coordination between government institutions and GSA county offices while promoting transparency, efficiency, and responsible administration at the local level.

‎As part of efforts to tighten accountability, Mr. Kortimai introduced Wilmot Sawah and Senezee Kojo as the GSA’s county monitors for Grand Gedeh. He instructed all government ministries, agencies, and commissions to fully cooperate with the monitors during the coding, verification, and inventory of all government-owned and government donated properties.

‎According to the GSA, the exercise forms part of broader efforts to establish an accurate national inventory of public assets and eliminate poor record-keeping and unauthorized handling of government property.

‎Responding on behalf of the county, Superintendent Alex C. Grant welcomed the GSA delegation and commended the agency for providing what he described as timely and valuable information to government institutions.

‎He expressed hope that the exercise would strengthen accountability and improve the management of public assets across Grand Gedeh County.
