The Ministry of Youth & Sports (MYS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. T. Kla Wesley Jr. as Director of Talent Development & Decentralization within the Department of Sports.
Mr. Wesley Jr. is a Liberian sports professional with over fifteen years of experience spanning grassroots football development, sports journalism, media management, and sports administration.
His journey in sports began as Team Manager of Swankamore Football Club, where he gained firsthand experience in talent identification, player development, and community based sports initiatives.
Driven by a passion for sports storytelling and development, he transitioned into sports journalism and built a distinguished career that has taken him across Liberia and onto the continental stage.
He has established himself as one of Liberia’s leading sports journalists, earning several prestigious awards for excellence in sports reporting and photography. His expertise and professionalism also led to his appointment as a Confederation of African Football (CAF) Media Officer, serving at major continental competitions.
As Director of Talent Development & Decentralization, Mr. Wesley Jr. will provide strategic leadership for sports development across all fifteen counties, oversee county level sports programs, supervise the Talent Identification and Scouting Unit, coordinate with county sports officers, schools and community organizations, develop policies that advance decentralization in sports governance, and help integrate promising athletes into regional academies and national teams. He will also monitor and evaluate county based sports programs to ensure measurable results and sustained grassroots participation.
Welcoming the appointment, Minister of Youth & Sports Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah said the Ministry remains committed to building an inclusive and sustainable sports development system that reaches every part of Liberia.
“The future of Liberian sports depends on our ability to identify, develop and support talent in every county. The appointment of T. Kla Wesley Jr. reinforces our commitment to creating a national system that gives every young athlete an equal opportunity to succeed while strengthening the foundation of sports across the country,” the Minister said.
In his new role, Mr. Wesley Jr. will focus on strengthening grassroots sports structures, promoting talent identification and athlete development, and advancing inclusive sports opportunities across all fifteen counties of Liberia. The Ministry is confident that his unique blend of grassroots, media, and continental sports administration experience will contribute significantly to the transformation of sports development nationwide.
