Lutheran Church Places Phebe Hospital Medical Director on One-Month Administrative Leave

Sinkor, Monrovia – July 11, 2026: The Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Liberia, Reverend Dr. Victor Padmore, has announced a one-month administrative leave for the Medical Director of Phebe Hospital, Dr. Minnie Ricks, as authorities seek to resolve the ongoing crisis at the hospital in Suakoko, Bong County.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Bishop’s office in Sinkor on Saturday, July 11, 2026, amid continued protests by aggrieved healthcare workers at the hospital.

According to Bishop Padmore, the decision is intended to create an enabling environment for an ongoing audit and a special investigative committee to carry out their work without interference, while also helping to restore calm at the institution.

He emphasized that the Lutheran Church remains committed to due process and cannot dismiss or remove employees solely on the basis of allegations. However, he acknowledged that the situation has raised concerns about the integrity and professional reputation of those involved, making immediate administrative action necessary pending the outcome of the investigations.

One of the key demands of the protesting healthcare workers has been the removal of Dr. Ricks and her two deputies from their respective positions.
