Newly inaugurated President of the Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL), J.H. Webster Clayeh, has pledged sweeping reforms aimed at improving journalists’ welfare, strengthening ethical standards and restoring public confidence in Liberia’s media.
Speaking during the Association’s 7th Inaugural Ceremony, Clayeh said his administration will establish a Reporter Welfare and Emergency Support Fund, a Legal Protection Initiative for journalists, and Liberia’s first comprehensive digital Reporter Database to better serve reporters across the country.
He acknowledged that many Liberian reporters continue to face intimidation, poor working conditions and harassment, insisting that the profession deserves greater protection and respect. Clayeh also vowed to work with the Press Union of Liberia and media institutions to tackle unethical practices that have damaged the image of the profession while safeguarding responsible journalism.
The new RAL President further called for reconciliation within the Press Union of Liberia, pledged transparency in the Association’s financial management, and urged members to support the reform agenda by paying their dues to strengthen the institution.
