LISAM Urges Government to Reinstate Scholarships for Liberian Students in Morocco

MONROVIA — The Leadership of the Liberian Students Association in Morocco (LISAM) has appealed to the Government of Liberia to immediately reinstate scholarships for several Liberian students whose financial support under the Liberia–Morocco Bilateral Scholarship Program was terminated while they were still enrolled in public universities in Morocco.

In a press statement issued Tuesday, LISAM said affected students have not received their monthly living allowances since January 2026, leaving many unable to pay rent, utilities, and other essential expenses despite being in the final stages of their academic programs.

According to the association, students followed all established government procedures to continue their studies, submitted proof of enrollment through the Liberian Embassy in Morocco, and received allowances for the first quarter of the 2025/2026 academic year before their scholarships were abruptly discontinued.

LISAM argued that while the government has the authority to revise scholarship policies, any changes should not be applied retroactively to students who had already been approved to continue their studies.

The association is calling on the government to restore the scholarships, settle all outstanding allowances from January 2026, establish a clear continuation policy, and hold discussions with the Ministry of Education to resolve the matter.
