Monrovia – Former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has challenged Executive Protection Service (EPS) Director Col. Sam Gaye’s defense of the destruction of seized narcotics, calling on the government to be more transparent.
Responding to Gaye’s statement regarding the destruction of an estimated US$363 million worth of narcotics, Howard-Taylor argued that the process lacked public transparency.
“Government must be more transparent. If this has been done, it was done under the cloud of darkness. The issue of the large quantity of drugs on our shores concerns all of us. It’s still being done with a lack of transparency,” she said.
The former vice president also called on the government to release the relevant reports and court documents if, as Gaye stated, the destruction was authorized by the court and conducted in accordance with the law.
Her remarks come amid growing public debate over the government’s handling of major drug seizures and the destruction of confiscated narcotics.
At the time of publication, the government had not issued additional documentation in response to Howard-Taylor’s request.
