Monrovia – Minister of Youth and Sports Cornelia Kruah has defended her personal style and public appearance, saying she should be judged by her performance in office rather than criticism over her choice of clothing.
In a social media post responding to critics, Kruah said she has consistently broken barriers throughout her career despite perceptions about women’s role in politics.
The 36-year-old minister said she has participated in demanding political activities traditionally dominated by men and has developed the resilience to withstand public criticism.
Referring to attacks on her appearance, Kruah remarked that her “skin is cooked like Firestone rubber,” suggesting she has become accustomed to criticism.
She also reiterated a commitment she made during her confirmation process, stating that her priority as minister is to unite young people across political, social, religious, and economic backgrounds rather than divide them.
Kruah added that she intends to be a minister with whom young Liberians can identify, whether in formal attire at official events or casual clothing in social settings, maintaining that her effectiveness in office should not be measured by her wardrobe.
Her remarks have sparked debate on social media over public expectations of government officials and gender stereotypes in politics.
