Liberian security authorities are investigating a ‘ghost ship,’ IB Atlantic IV Moroni, that has been spotted along the coastlines of western Liberia, specifically in York Island, Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount County.
Local security agents in that part of Liberia, including border patrol officers, revealed that the strange vessel has been spotted in York Island for almost a week now, but they have been unable to access it.
Amid rising public concerns, local officials of Grand Cape Mount County are calling on the Ministry of Justice to urgently intervene in establishing the nature and purpose of the strange ship that has since washed in the waters of Liberia.
On May 3, 2016, a Panama-flagged ghost ship named Timaya 1 drifted into the waters of Grand Cape Mount County.

IB Atlantic IV Moroni is a cargo vessel. The vessel was built 1985, and it is 88 meters long (LOA) and 11 meters wide (beam). The strange vessel operates under the flag of Comoros with an IMO # 8502133, MMSI # 620999913, and Callsign # D6A3912, according to Maritime Optima. The vessel type is Dry bulk/Mini bulkers 1 with a deadweight of 2,362 tonnes. The vessel last departed Guinea Bissau on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Based on AIS data, the ‘ghost’ vessel is currently in the Liberian Exclusive Economic Zone.
