Monrovia – Exiled Liberian activist Martin K. N. Kollie says he has received a letter of appreciation from teachers at Haywood Mission Institute after months of advocacy that contributed to significant salary increases for dozens of staff members.
According to Kollie, his advocacy began in January 2026 after teachers complained of poor working conditions and monthly salaries as low as L$14,000. He said sustained public engagement between January and May prompted improvements by the school’s administration.
In the appreciation letter, teachers credited Kollie and his platform, Verity Online News, for amplifying their concerns and helping secure salary adjustments. Under the new pay structure, teachers who previously earned L$14,000 will now receive between L$36,000 and L$75,000 or more, representing increases of more than 150 percent for some employees.
Kollie also thanked the administration and proprietorship of Haywood Mission Institute for responding positively to the concerns, emphasizing that the campaign was intended to improve teachers’ welfare rather than damage the school’s reputation. He pledged to continue advocating for better conditions for teachers and other public sector workers across Liberia.
