Monrovia – Former Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah has rejected calls by former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor to withdraw remarks he made concerning President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, declaring that he stands firmly by his statement.
In a public response, Kolubah said he would not retract his comments despite Howard-Taylor’s assertion that his claims regarding President Boakai’s condolence visit to her family were false and disrespectful. He maintained that he was exercising his constitutional right to express his views.
Kolubah also took issue with Howard-Taylor’s reference to him as a “former Representative,” arguing that the legal matter surrounding his legislative status remains before the Supreme Court and that no vacancy has been declared in his district. He questioned whether, as a lawyer, Howard-Taylor believed it was appropriate to describe him as a former lawmaker while the case is still pending.
The outspoken politician further accused President Boakai of violating his constitutional right to freedom of movement, claiming that Howard-Taylor and other opposition leaders failed to publicly condemn the alleged incident. He suggested that her defense of the President was influenced by a desire to maintain a cordial relationship with the current administration, an allegation for which he provided no evidence.
Kolubah concluded by reiterating his respect for the former Vice President but insisted that he would not apologize or withdraw his statement. He also declared that he would not “bow down” to President Boakai.
The exchange follows Howard-Taylor’s recent public statement dismissing Kolubah’s allegations as false and calling on him to retract his remarks and apologize to President Boakai, her family, and the Liberian people.
