Sen. Konneh Says Boakai Fighting Two-Front War Against Drugs

MONROVIA, Liberia — Montserrado County Senator Amara Konneh says President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is fighting a “two-front war” against drug trafficking—targeting criminal cartels while also dealing with alleged misconduct within his own security establishment.

In a statement, Senator Konneh said the President is confronting the cartels while managing concerns involving senior security officials responsible for fighting the drug trade.

He criticized the recusal of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency’s Officer-in-Charge, Fitzgerald Biago, saying the situation raises broader questions about accountability and public confidence in the investigation.

Konneh urged President Boakai not to allow advisers to constrain his response, calling on him to take decisive action against anyone involved in the illicit drug trade or efforts to facilitate it.

He also warned that public distrust remains high following major cocaine seizures and the controversies surrounding the investigations.

The senator referenced reports and advocacy by media organizations and activist Martin K. N. Kollie, who has claimed to have uncovered additional information connected to the drug investigation.

Konneh said Monday would be significant, given the President’s directive for investigators to report on the matter, and urged citizens to continue demanding accountability.

“We must make Liberia unattractive to drug traffickers and their Liberian protectors,” he said, describing the fight against drugs as a national responsibility.
