MONROVIA, Liberia — Former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has hinted at a possible return to active politics ahead of Liberia’s 2029 presidential elections, declaring that she is not retired from public life.
Speaking about her political future, the former Vice President said her absence from her former office should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from politics.
“I am not retired. I might not be in that office. But I am not retired,” Taylor said.
The statement has sparked speculation about whether the former Vice President could seek political office again in 2029, although she did not explicitly announce a candidacy or disclose any specific political plans.
Taylor served as Liberia’s Vice President from 2018 to 2024 under former President George Manneh Weah.
Her remarks come amid growing political discussions and early positioning ahead of the 2029 elections, with several prominent Liberian politicians already signaling their intentions to remain active in national politics.
The former Vice President’s comments are therefore being viewed by political observers as a possible indication that she could seek another opportunity to influence or participate directly in Liberia’s political leadership.
For now, Taylor has left her political future open, saying only that she is “not retired.”
