MONROVIA, Liberia — Secretary General of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Jefferson Tamba Koijee, says he considers it a fundamental responsibility to ensure that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is out of power at the end of his current term.
Koijee made the statement while reflecting on his own political experience under the Boakai administration, particularly his removal from the position of Monrovia City Mayor.
“Part of my work is to remove him from power like he did,” Koijee said, referring to President Boakai.
He further stated that despite President Boakai being a member of the Kissi ethnic group, he was disappointed by what he described as the President’s decision to remove him from his position.
“When people call me to say he’s a Kissi man, I ask, what kind of Kissi man is that?” Koijee said.
According to the CDC official, his political objective is now to ensure that President Boakai becomes “jobless” after his tenure.
“My responsibility is to ensure that Joseph Boakai becomes jobless the next three years from now. And that’s a fundamental responsibility,” Koijee declared.
Koijee’s comments come amid heightened political activities as opposition parties and the governing establishment continue to position themselves ahead of Liberia’s next electoral cycle.
The statement is expected to generate further political reactions as the opposition CDC intensifies its activities and criticism of the Boakai administration.
