Scores of partisans and sympathizers of the Ruling Unity Party have gathered on Broad Street to observe the historic September 17, 2023 campaign rally, which is now dubbed and styled in history as “The Green Day.”
September 17, 2023 was the day that Monrovia turned entirely green. This day largely paved the way for the unstoppable ascendancy of Unity Party standard bearer Joseph Nyumah Boakai to the Liberian presidency.
On this day in 2023, Sunday, hundreds of thousands of Liberians defied the heavy downpour of rain and massive flood in Monrovia to send a final message that they were fed up with the government of former President George M. Weah. Even before the presidential election, this was the rally that delivered the victory to the Unity Party.
This was just 23 days before the October 10, 2023 general and presidential elections. Finally, their action on September 17, 2023 was translated into a political victory for the ruling Unity Party at the ballot box.
