September 29, 2026 — After a mass jailbreak on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Kakata Central Prision in Margibi County, Obi was recaptured that same day while escaping. The Court has now sentenced him and two other LDEA officers to 20 years in prision for committing multiple drug-related offenses.
The 13th Judicial Circuit Court in Margibi County has sentenced two Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) officers and a Nigerian national to 20 years in prison each for their involvement in a major drug trafficking case. Presiding Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie handed down the sentences on September 29, 2026, following their conviction in the case.
The convicts are Nigerian national Tony Obi and LDEA officers Lovertee L. Fallah and Joe Logan. Their convictions followed a guilty verdict by a 12-member jury earlier this month over allegations involving drug trafficking valued at approximately US$181,008 and LD$63,201,600. The sentencing proceeded after the Supreme Court of Liberia issued its mandate in the case.
The court ordered each of the three defendants to serve 20 years in prison. While the two LDEA officers will remain subject to their respective sentences, Tony Obi is expected to be deported to Nigeria after completing his 20-year prison term in Liberia.
