Margibi County Senator Nathaniel F. McGill has launched a scholarship program aimed at addressing the financial constraints undergraduate students are faced with.
Speaking at the launch of the scholarship program on Thursday at his Capitol Building office, the CDC Senator outlined the initiative’s objectives and requirements. He emphasized that the scholarship is specifically designed for Margibi County residents who are struggling to afford their education at the state-run University of Liberia.
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be residents of Margibi County and maintain a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7 each semester.
Senator McGill highlighted the dual purpose of the scholarship: “This initiative comes as a welcome relief for many students and families, easing the financial burdens associated with university registration fees.
The Opposition lawmaker said the project is not just about easing financial burdens, but also about encouraging academic excellence and ensuring that our youth have the support they need to succeed.
While the University of Liberia has adopted a tuition-free policy, students are still required to pay various registration and associated fees.
These costs the Senator noted can be prohibitive for many families in Margibi County and Liberia at large.
Senator McGill stressed that the scholarship program will cover expenses for qualifying students, allowing them to concentrate on their studies without the stress of financial constraints.
The scholarship program is expected to benefit hundreds of students in Margibi County, significantly impacting their educational journeys and future prospects. By reducing financial barriers, the initiative aims to increase university enrollment and retention rates among Margibians.
