The Plenary of the Liberian Senate has voted unanimously to confirm Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan as Minister of Finance and Development Planning.
The Senate took this unanimous decision on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, during the ongoing special session of the 55th Legislature.
A total of twenty-six (26) senators voted in favor, while three were not present for the voting process.
Prior to the confirmation vote, the Senate committee chairman on Ways, Means, and Finance and Budget, Senator Prince Moye, recommended that, given the mandate of the Finance and Development Planning Minister, the Senate expects Hon. Ngafuan to manage the economy in ways that maximize output, foster sustainable development, and subsequently improve livelihoods.
Mr. Ngafuan previously served as Finance Minister and later as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet during the regime of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
He now returns as Minister of Finance and Development Planning under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration.
At his confirmation hearing, the new finance minister recently informed the senators that he will ensure that resources are aligned with the new ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) through effective management of the national budget.
Mr. Ngafuan is returning to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning with a wealth of experience, having served as the Country Manager of the African Development Bank in Uganda.
He replaces Hon. Boima S. Kamara, who resigned in July 2024 due to alleged illness.
